Medical College of Georgia School of Nursing at Athens (SONAT):"To respond to the need for nurses with baccalaureate and higher degrees in the state of Georgia, in 1974 the Medical College of Georgia created a satellite campus for the School of Nursing at Athens (SONAT). A collaborative arrangement was developed and continues to exist between the Medical College of Georgia and the University of Georgia so that SONAT students are provided with access to the libraries, student activities, housing, and student services on the campus of the University of Georgia.
The School of Nursing at Athens (SONAT) offers the baccalaureate program (both generic and RN to BSN) and a limited number of tracks within the masters program. Approximately 50 generic undergraduate students, 20 RN to BSN students, and 15 masters students can be accommodated on the Athens campus. Clinical facilities utilized by the faculty and the students are from a wide variety of health-care settings in primary, secondary and tertiary care. These facilities include Athens Regional Medical Center, St. Mary's Hospital, University Health Service, the Department of Human Resources, day care centers, schools, nursing homes, and many other community health-related agencies. Students may be required to travel to Atlanta or other surrounding areas for select clinical experiences." ******************************************************
Medical College of Georgia School of Nursing at Barnesville (SONAB): "In response to the request to provide diploma and associate degree nurses in central Georgia with an opportunity to obtain a baccalaureate degree in nursing, in 1996 the Medical College of Georgia created a satellite campus for the School of Nursing at Barnesville (SONAB) on the campus of Gordon College. A collaborative arrangement was developed and continues to exist between the Medical College of Georgia and Gordon College so that SONAB students are provided with access to the library, student activities, and student services on the campus of Gordon College.
The School of Nursing at Barnesville (SONAB) offers only the RN to BSN program by distance learning and is capable of accommodating up to 20 students. Two Medical College of Georgia School of Nursing faculty are physically housed on the campus of Gordon College in space that provides for faculty offices, a work area, and space for secretarial support. Classroom space with distance learning equipment is provided to the faculty and students by Gordon College.
