e-Medicine Consumer Health, Multiple Sclerosis (MS), article:"The symptoms of MS can be different from person to person. Visual, sensory, and motor signs and symptoms are all part of MS. Some people have mild cases of MS with little or no disability. Others have full-blown MS that confines them to a bed or wheelchair. Still others are only diagnosed
with MS after their death and live their entire lives symptom free. This variability makes it extremely difficult to diagnose MS. Often the signs and
symptoms are mistaken as psychiatric in origin." Category: Multiple Sclerosis, MS, http://www.nursingms.com ****************************************************
emedicinehealth.com, Rectal Bleeding Causes:"Anorectal disorders: These are the
most common causes of minor rectal bleeding.
Hemorrhoids: Hemorrhoids are swollen rectal veins in the anal and rectal area. They can cause burning, painful discomfort, and bleeding.
External hemorrhoids are small swellings that are easy to see and quite painful. Anal itching is common.
Internal hemorrhoids are usually painless. A rectal mass sensation may be noted with bowel movements."

emedicine.com:"Launched in 1996, www.eMedicine.com comprises the largest and most current Clinical Knowledge Base available to physicians and health professionals. Nearly 10,000 physician authors and editors contribute to the eMedicine Clinical Knowledge Base, which contains articles on 7,000 diseases and disorders. The evidence-based content-updated 24/7-provides the latest practice guidelines in 62 medical specialties. eMedicine's professional content undergoes 4 levels of physician peer review plus an additional review by a PharmD. eMedicine's professional and institutional subscription site is www.iMedicine.com." Emedicine.com, Adjustment disorder (AD):"Adjustment disorder (AD) is a stress-related, short-term, nonpsychotic disturbance. Persons with AD are often viewed as disproportionately overwhelmed or overly intense in their responses to given stimuli. The disorder is time-limited, and symptoms lessen upon removal of the stressor or when new adaptation occurs.
AD is considered one of the subthreshold disorders, which are less well defined and share characteristics of other diagnostic groups. Subthreshold disorders fall between defined disorders and problem level (V Code) diagnoses (Strain, 1998). Subthreshold disorders allow for the "classification of early or temporary states when the clinical picture is vague and indiscreet and yet the morbid state is more than expected in a normal reaction" (Strain, 1998). Because of insufficient behavioral criteria for patients with AD, reliability and validity of this disorder remain problematic." Pulmonary Embolism, Emedicine.com:"Pulmonary embolism (PE) is an extremely common and highly lethal disease that is a leading cause of death in all age groups. A good clinician will actively seek the diagnosis as soon as there is any suspicion whatsoever of PE, since prompt diagnosis and treatment can dramatically reduce the mortality and morbidity of the disease. Unfortunately, the diagnosis is missed far more often than it is made, because PE often causes only vague and nonspecific symptoms." Emergency Clinical Guide, Arterial Blood Gases (ABG's):"Normal arterial pH is 7.40. pH is one of the most tightly regulated values in the body - homeostaic mechanisms are in place that maintain the pH to within very tight tolerances. Any variation of more than 0.02 in either direction is a sign of poor control. Blood is considered acidic at values below 7.38 and alkaline at values above 7.42.
The primary processes involved are acidosis and alkalosis - meaning that something is happening to cause the condition in the blood of acidemia or alkalemia. They love to pimp you on the difference between acidosis and acidemia - remember that the first is a process and the second is the resulting condition."
