Baby Erik and The Old Man, Inspirational Poems Touching Stories:"We were the only family with children in the restaurant. I sat Erik in a high chair and noticed everyone was quietly eating and talking. Suddenly, Erik squealed with glee and said, "Hi there." He pounded his fat baby hands on the high-chair tray. His eyes were wide with excitement and his mouth was bared in a toothless grin. He wriggled and giggled with excitement." http://www.inspirationalnursing.com/erik

Babycenter.com, Choosing a certified nurse-midwife:"You can choose a certified nurse-midwife to care for you during your pregnancy as long as you're in good health (meaning you have no serious chronic medical condition, such as high blood pressure, epilepsy, heart disease, or diabetes). At your first visit to a midwife, she'll take a comprehensive medical history, answer any questions you have, perform a physical exam, and have laboratory screenings done. She can make arrangements for any prenatal testing you want to have done that she doesn't do herself, such as ultrasound or amniocentesis. If it turns out that you have certain medical or obstetrical conditions — such as high blood pressure or triplets — that require the care of an obstetrician or a perinatalogist (a high-risk specialist), she'll refer you to one."

Babycenter.com, Rectal bleeding during pregnancy, What could cause rectal bleeding during pregnancy? :"Rectal bleeding is typically caused by hemorrhoids — varicose veins in and around the rectum. Hemorrhoids are relatively common during pregnancy, particularly in the last trimester and in the weeks after giving birth. If you strain during a bowel movement, pass hard stools, or rub when you wipe, these swollen veins may bleed.
Anal fissures are another cause of rectal bleeding. These painful cracks in the skin of the anus may be caused by passing hard stools as a result of constipation, which is common during pregnancy."

BabyZone's Premature Baby Page, Dr. Nathan:"The purpose of this site is to educate and support parents, other family members and friends of prematurely born infants. Having a baby born prematurely usually frightens parents. Depending on the degree of prematurity, your newborn baby may be at risk of serious illness and even death. These pages provide information, not medical advice. Your doctor and your baby's doctor are the best sources for medical advice." http://www.babyzone.com/drnathan/premature/

Bandolier, Restless legs: impact and treatment update:"Bandolier has been keeping a quiet eye on restless legs syndrome (RLS). It is common (Bandolier 118), and though Bandolier has looked previously at trials of pergolide (Bandolier 67), those were very small with fewer than 60 patients in three trials. Because RLS is common, and because there are limited therapies available, any pharmaceutical company worth its salt would be looking for the possibility of significant potential sales with an effective drug. This may be happening, because we now have newer, larger, and better trials, and large surveys of the impact of RLS on patients, all funded by pharmaceutical interest in this area."

Nurses' Station:"The idea for the Nurses' Station Catalog was conceived in 1989. After searching the marketplace in response to customer inquiries, it became obvious that there were no catalogs of this type serving the nursing profession. To be sure, there were several catalogs offering nurse's uniforms and a smattering of professional items. But there weren't any catalogs at the time offering a range of gifts, clothing, professional items, name badges, shoes and scrubs for nurses. It took two years of hard work to gather samples and put a together a catalog of the most unique and high-quality items for nurses."

ER:"Media products under your influence, particularly the NBC/Warner drama "ER," are harming the profession of 2.7 million American nurses by giving the public an inaccurate and inadequate account of what nurses really do to save and improve lives. Research suggests that "ER" strongly and negatively influences the way children view nursing. These products contribute to the nursing shortage, a public health crisis that threatens millions worldwide."
NBC's "Passions":"NBC's "Passions" solves nursing shortage: monkeys can do the job! Starting in March 2003 and at least as recently as late August, NBC's campy, supernatural daytime soap opera "Passions" has featured an orangutan named Precious in the role of the private duty nurse of one of its characters--a bold step backwards in the already slow...evolution...of the media's treatment of nurses. more..."
"Scrubs" defines nursing:""Scrubs" defines nursing: it's all about shutting up and following physician "orders. " Tonight's episode of NBC's "Scrubs," which purports to teach nurse Carla Espinosa that nursing is all about doing what physicians tell you, is one of the most virulently anti-nurse prime time television episodes the Center has ever seen. more..." http://www.nursingadvocacy.org/
